Embracing the Unexpected

Sissy took the gold medal in bubble blowing

Today I had big plans!  We headed to the park with toy bats, golf clubs, balls, our whole collection of bubble wands, and a huge bottle of bubbles for the first annual Bubble Olympics.

Events included popping as many bubbles as you can with a bat, catching a bubble on your wand and running a relay, and blowing more bubbles than your competitors.

Batter up...
and swing!
We settled down in a beautiful open field and started the games.  And then I noticed them… huge black looming clouds.  While they offered lovely shade, the wind that accompanied the clouds made bubble blowing nearly impossible.  We valiantly tried to continue, but mostly ended up covered in bubble juice.  Let me tell you that it is very hard to blow bubbles in the wind, keep an open container of bubbles away from twin boys, coach a bubble event, and attempt to photograph the proceedings.

After a few more stubborn moments, I was forced to admit defeat.  I packed up the toys and kids and headed back to the car.

So to celebrate our loss, we decided to take Daddy to lunch!

The moral of the story is, sometimes you have to embrace the unexpected!

Oh, and we will revisit Bubble Olympics one day and it will be epic!

Happy Summer!
